Non-ExemptGENERAL SUMMARY To perform, under general supervision, skilled trade duties, related manual, and diversified duties, all requiring application of safe occupational practice and code achievement.
Reports to the Director of Maintenance and Operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform skilled duties in one or more trades area in the repair and maintenance of School District buildings and property, including mechanical, electrical, heating, plumbing and air conditioning systems, and general renovations and repairs to fixtures, equipment, vehicles and physical facilities.
Perform carpentry, painting, plastering, and other general repairs as assigned; builds and installs cabinets, furniture, partitions, paneling and other office fixtures; repairs or installs carpet; performs roofing repairs and maintenance as required.
Repairs and maintains electrical components in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems; installs and rewires electrical circuits as required; maintains and repairs office lighting fixture; checks and replaced switches, receptacles, fuses and circuit breakers; wires and installs public address and fire alarm systems; performs more advanced electrical work in the maintenance and repair of motors, relays and switches in large electro-mechanical systems.
Repairs and replaces valves, lavatories, toilets, showers, pipes and water heaters as required; clears drains and performs other related plumbing duties.
Repairs heavy vehicle and other motorized or mechanical equipment used by the School District; operates and tests equipment as required; performs regular and routine equipment preventative maintenance as appropriate.
Assists in routine preventive maintenance tasks at all schools (playground inspections, HVAC filters, emergency light testing, etc.
) Drives and operates heavy vehicles and equipment as required to make repairs Safely operates a variety of power and hand tools Maintains assigned vehicle, tools, and equipment in good operating condition Estimates costs, labor and materials for projects Participates in meetings, workshops, and training to exchange information Responds to emergency situations during and after hours to resolve critical issues Performs other duties as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education and
Experience:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) is needed with one to two years in building and floor care maintenance; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the practices, policies and procedures of the school district.
Extensive knowledge of the practices, procedures, materials and supplies of the carpentry trade.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the carpentry trade.
Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in carpentry work.
Knowledge in applying sketches, plans, blue prints, and work orders for completion of carpentry work.
Skills/Effort:
Ability to complete work requiring constant attention.
Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written directions.
Ability to operate and/or utilize carpentry equipment/materials such as saws, drill presses, routers, sanders, etc.
Skill in performing preventative maintenance, installation, and repair operations incidental to regular duties and/or areas of assignment.
Skill in the use of standard hand tools.
Skill in reading, interpreting and applying plans, specifications, and blueprints.
Ability to communicate effectively with immediate supervisor, staff, and other groups and individuals involved in daily activities.

Routine travel is required; no overnight travel required.
